A “Weekend of Heroes 2012” Moves to Ohio

Amazing dioramas are part of the Weekend of Heroes Event.

For over 10 years, the rest of the nation has looked enviously upon action figure and militaria fans living in Southern California for their ease of access to one of the coolest events ever—the “Weekend of Heroes (WOH).” Yes, that’s the show most of us have come to think of as a “West Coast Only” affair. One that we’ve always heard about, but simply had to write off our list as just too far away.

Well, FINALLY… organizer John Lu has decided to host the 2012 event in a region that’s much more convenient to the rest of the U.S.—Columbus, Ohio! Hooray! Thank you, John! Always a great show, this year’s show will be held on June 1-3 at the Ohio Expo Center. Past WOH shows have featured dealers in action figures and militaria, diorama displays, custom figure contests, special guests and full-size equipment and vehicle displays. Take a look at the VIDEO from the 2010 show for an idea of what to expect (lots of hot chicks on motorcycles apparently, HA). Here’s more from their website:

“Established in April 2002, A Weekend of Heroes was a venue for military action figure collectors to meet the REAL heroes of yesteryear. Over time, the convention has transformed into a USAirsoft Expo with the Airsoft industry taking the lead.

Come check out the latest on AEGs and Gear (we realized that not everyone can make a SHOT SHOW, so we bring the Industry to You! Nonprofit groups such as the US Army, State Troopers, Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA), historical re-enactment groups among many others will also be on site.

All military personnel and family members with proper ID are admitted free to the convention hall weekend. Public hours are Sat.10am~5pm, and Sun. 10am~3pm. General admission for the public is $5.00, children ages 10 and under admitted FREE. Children and Teens ages 17 and under admitted FREE all day SUNDAY.”

Sounds like an enjoyable event. Maybe not as “Joe-Centric” as many may prefer, but variety is the spice of life! And who knows what inspiration may be gathered from such an event? You’ll probably come out with 100 new ideas for custom figures and dioramas. Hooah!
